Dr Alice Roberts travels the globe to discover the story of how humans left Africa to colonise the world — overcoming hostile terrain, extreme weather and other humanoid species. She pieces together precious fragments of bone, stone and new DNA evidence and discovers how this journey changed these African ancestors into the people of today.
I can’t get enough of the fact that we are all from Africa – enjoyed this documentary thoroughly! Looking forward to watching the next episode. That single leap out of Africa by a small group of pioneers was such a pivotal point in our making, isn’t it?
Yes, I keep wondering what must have been the motivation for venturing out of Africa and I’m thinking it may be just human curiosity. However, seeing that it took tens of thousands of years, the migration may have been incremental. So perhaps each generation moved a few miles during their lifetimes until eventually they reached all the corners of the planet. It is indeed an incredible story. It’s also amazing that it can be traced and confirmed from genetic evidence.
