Japan – A Story of Love and Hate

‘Japan: A Story of Love and Hate’ is an engaging documentary about a failed businessman living with/off his much younger girlfriend on the poverty line in Japan. It’s a pretty intriguing, and intrinsically very sad, look at what happens when you fall through the cracks in one of the world’s richest nations. (100 min)

  1. Oh, looking forward to watching this over the next day. Incidentally, I am reading Underground: The Tokyo Gas Attack and the Japanese Psyche by Haruki Murakami so it’s looking like a Japanese weekend here…

  2. Interesting! This documentary I think does get into the Japanese psyche but probably just a small part… and already there’s some surprising stuff. I hope you get some Japanese food as well this weekend.

  3. It’s a long weekend here so I still have one day to get my sushi and sashimi! I finished watching the documentary last night. Yes, it is different to what we normally know Japan to be. If you have a chance, try to watch ‘Japanese Story’. More for entertainment than psyche, though. For psyche, plenty of it in Murakami’s.
