South Pacific: Ep.1 – Ocean of Islands

There’s an odd second commentary voice on this first episode of the BBC documentary series South Pacific Diaries but the visuals are so dazzling in HD here that it’s just wonderful to feast the eyes. The opening episode presents an overview of the natural history of the region, introducing some of the themes that are explored in more detail in later programmes. The South Pacific covers a vast area, and less than 1% is land, ranging from the Hawaiian Islands north of the equator to New Zealand in the south.

In segment 5, the native people of the Anuta island have figured out a sustainable way to live on a very small island. Segment 6 is an extra bonus piece about filming within giant waves in HD. Segment 1 (10 min)

That’s it! I am moving to one of these islands! Would be content even if I had only one month of living like a local (minus eating the worms!)…yes, I am sure I will be able to cope without the internet, hehe!

Well, the Anuta Island did look very idyllic, didn’t it. I bet though, there are satellite dishes that they did not show… Regardless, it would be nice to unplug for awhile.
