Hmmm…I think the rotten fish and fried frog skin may be a bit too exotic for me.
The fish head curry at the Banana Leaf Apollo Restaurant in Singapore is a must though – brings back some wonderful memories there for me. Eat with your fingers off the banana leaf – the only way to do it!

I think that frog tastes like chicken and I bet the rotten fish is decent. There’s a Vietnamese anchovy sauce that is like rotten fish but it is great. One has to be adventurous though unless one grew up eating it like I did. I also like the whole concept of eating on banana leaves…

Oh I don’t mind frog, stir-fried or in hot pot; fried frog skin, I am not sure.
From what you described, I think the rotten fish thing may be quite similar to what we have in my hometown, a kind of fermented fish sauce. Tastes great with plenty of lime and fresh cut chili as a dipping sauce for grilled fish and raw vegies/salad. One of my fav’s actually. I think the word ‘rotten’ sounded bad; I’d much rather they had used ‘fermented’.

I am not sure I like the word fermented either but it does have a more appetizing appeal than rotten.

this takes me down memory lane…I’ve eaten @ Banana leaf apollo many times….there are also were a nbr of other spots where you could eat off the banana leaf….we used to go to a little cafe/coffee shop near our office on Saturday’s (at that time our office worked 1/2 days on Saturday) and have fish head curry for lunch before we all went home….it was de-lish and such a nice tradition with our friends…
