Ahhh…one of the last frontiers. Sadly, I think it’s sooner rather than later that this idyllic country will be invaded by tourism and commercial developments. Laos didn’t leave me much impression other than how basic (and that isn’t necessarily negative) everything was (including the food). It was like going back 30 years in time or something. I didn’t think I would return to Laos but looking back now, I think I will hopefully before the invasion of mass tourism.

i’ve never been to Laos but reading Chaun’s words above make me want to….will come back to check out the food video…
food is also pretty basic in the Philippines once you get out of the large hotels…

Hello ladies… I like this episode because Bourdain gets beyond what he usually does in the show. I think he gets real and almost emotional. Indeed, the show is not much about how the food is so great but about interaction and culture of the people in the country and it all happens around food because of the focus of the show. It is interesting that when people have not much to offer, they usually offer warmth and hospitality.
Yes, I sure hope I get there soon and also the Philippines!
