Amazing piece of history… so many iconic names and personalities are intertwined with this story. I am left with the feeling that the Medici were like the Bush family of their time.

There were actually bright and benevolent Medici leaders as well. Without their patronage, we may not have some of the legacy in Western art and architecture which gave rise to the Renaissance. But yeah, were those Medici Popes corrupt or what? Wow.
