One of the latest and most surreal John McCain attacks against his Democrat rival is that Barack Obama wants to “spread the wealth.” John McCain is a maverick for the benefit of the very rich, like our current president. He and his political party has lost sight of who Americans currently are. (5:03 min)

Unfortunately, we still got Bush/Cheney in the white house for another couple of months after the election. That’s probably enough time for them to implode the country. Good riddance…

Like “green” which today carries good connotation…but decades earlier was derogatory, negative, meant to cause allergy to American public. Over time, with discussion and education…meanings evolve to mean what they should mean.

Thank you, Anh Tuan, for the insightful comment. It is suggested that Americans go back and forth between right and left, this and that in politics, bringing a Democrat or Republican into office as the mood of the country changes. While that is true, I would like to think that there is something else at play, that we are waking up, evolving if you will, from being manipulated by the old political guards, media and big business, and to be less selfish about our choices and desires. I have always thought that a more socialist approach to government needs a more evolved and less selfish populace and is necessary for a sustainable future. Maybe we are finally getting there. That said, I think it is more healthy to throw away past ISMs, capitalism, socialism and whatever isms and start to do what is right and decent for all people of the world.

I meant to mention in my comment on the previous post that this class warfare has been going on since the beginning of time with a few breaks after revolutions. There was a great detailed analysis of it in a book by York University Politcal Science prof James Laxer : “The Undeclared War: Class Conflict in the Age of Cyber Capitalism” that I read several years ago. He dedicates one of the chapters to studying how the right is able to convince the working classes to vote against policies that are in their own self interest. That is exactly what we see at play here with McCain.
great comments as always David… the world is feeling the growing pains!
coincidentally Canada re-elected a minority Conservative government last week. Our election campaign only last 30 days, still costing taxpayers $300 million. The problem here is that we have 4 partys on the left of the spectrum who split about 60% of the vote, leaving the largest slice to the single party of the right. I think the partisanship between those 4 partys needs to be overcome in order for us to resume our progressive path in this country.
