As much as we are exploring space and trying to understand our universe, proving that there is life out there, I think they - whoever or whatever they are - are also trying to establish contact with us. I feel that if/when this contact is successfully established and communication channel is opened, it may just be what we earthlings need, ie a chance to redeem ourselves as a human race, a humbling experience that acknowledges that we are not alone, not the smartest, not one to outdo our Creator. And may be then, our humanity and our planet can be saved.
That said, I ponder over what I would do if I came face-to-face with this higher intelligence. I think Sci-fi has instilled in us that they are the bad guys (most of the time) and I think I will need to let that go first and keep remembering that this is a divine thing…

It would be pretty exciting if and when there is contact because it will change everything… and oh boy, do we humans need a big change. At our core, there is much to admire about humans but we have also made a muck of things. It would a little shameful if other beings made contact to prevent us from our own self destruction. It would be better if they contact us because we finally attain a certain consciousness…
