I may be a bit off the tangent here, but can’t help thinking how opposite this is to the Buddhist teaching of accepting suffering, detaching oneself from desires, etc. Bernay’s exploitation of our intrinsic nature has unleashed such consumerism and greed (and indirectly has a part to play in the current global meltdown) that there is no way of turning back the clock but may be there is still hope if the Buddhist wisdom was more mainstream?

Ha ha, indeed, it is almost the exact opposite isn’t it? It is feeding people a drug and most of us are addicted. Luckily, the first sign of being able to break the addiction is awareness that it is going on. Oh but it can be so good that we can cease to care for anything real like civil or human rights. This series is like the invisible history of the forced addiction or enslavement to material goods.

Ultimately, though, I believe that despite the dark forces that started the evolution of the self, certain truths and/or personal truths will emerge. In fact, I think we are living in those times of transition.
