what a wonderful series…I have only been to Bali, but if one gets away from the beach, it is just magic…i will never forget the terraced rice fields there….and the idea of bfast from the pancake man in that little lake hotel in Java is very appealing… :-)

When I was in Java, I had a very bad experience of being cornered by 5 guys and almost mugged. I was able to get out of it without a scratch but it really shook me up and kinda spoiled my experience in Java and cut short my visit. Luckily, I was able to see Borodubur which at the time I did not even know about. I went back to Bali and almost went bamboo. It was funny to see Bourdain asking himself, “OK, what does it take for me to just stay here. I need to learn the language, what kind of work would I do, how much money will it take to live.” I asked myself all those question the first time I was in Bali.

But yeah, that hotel on the lake with the pancake man looks very appealing. Where the heck was that?

oh my David, that is such a scary story…so glad you were not hurt…and yes, Bail is very mesmerizing, I can see why you had those thoughts…

I believe the pancake man hotel was in Java, but I cannot remember the name of the lake…:-)

I have only been to Bali but will return to Indonesia to do the paradise island thingy one day. I didn’t think of going Bamboo then but on the Tioman Island in Malaysia I did. Had this crazy idea of living on the island with my laptop and going around drumming up business ie. design restaurant menus and stuff. But that was in the old days…:)

Chaun - the Tioman Island in Malaysia? I have to check that out. That’s funny that you talk about the old days. It can’t be that long ago if you had a laptop.

Ann - I saw a Korean movie a few years back that took place at a lake that had similar floating rooms for rent. No pancake man though.

You make me laugh, David. You do have a point. OK…what about 8 years ago. :)

Chaun, I’ve also heard great things about Tioman…, and am also laughing about the old days :-)

David, any place where the rooms float is very appealing….the pancake man is the icing on the cake… :-)
