Beijing’s Bird Nest Stadium - Man Made Marvels

The National Stadium was built with 36 km of unwrapped steel, with a combined weight of 45,000 tons. The stadium has some 11,000 square meters of underground rooms with waterproof walls. The final cost will be up to 3.5 billion yuan (~423 million USD). Part 5 (9:02 min)

    what a bold design…I really think this is perfect for the Chinese National stadium…. interesting to learn the history behind this structure… :-)

    fascinating documentary! definitely and engineering and architectural wonder!

    I had seen Ai Wei Wei featured in another documentary a few years ago called “China Rises”. He is a very rebellious and avante garde artist… in some ways its ironic that he played such an important role in this type of project.

    like half the world, I was watching the the jaw dropping opening ceremony. The stadium and performances look spectacular, integrated with the choreography for which it was built for. It was neat to know the story behind how it was conceived and built.
