wonderful cultural piece! I need to do something interesting for supper now. Dont think there is any satay in NF though. Ann and I had a wonderful Malaysian meal in Chinatown, SF. Interesting that they touched on preserveing heriage architecture too…

Toronto has recently expanded its rules for street food which until now has been limited to burgers, hotdogs and sausages. With a population of over 40% foreign born this promises to be very interesting in the future.

David, this made me so homesick for Singapore and it’s food!! I have tried all the foods mentioned from hawker stalls there. While living there, I ate lunch every day at a street stall or coffee shop….Sadly, i never made it to Penang, but did visit KL and Malacca a few times…and Sean is right, we did have a great Malay meal in SF! :-)

Yes, I liked how they started from food and went into many different facets of the culture…

That’s great that they are allowing more street vending in Toronto. It’s sad that many places in Asia did away with a a lot of street vending as they modernize. It’s good that Malaysia and Penang in this instance, is conscious of not displacing this street culture.

I wonder if they will include San Francisco for this program?

What a wonderful piece – it truly brings back all the wonderful memories of Penang and its easy-going, laid back atmosphere of what I think only this island state can offer.

If there is one place in Malaysia you must visit, it’s Penang (for me, there are two, this and my hometown Kota Bharu). :)

Yes, when I watched this, I was thinking “great photography opportunities as well as food.” Funny.
