In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great: Ep.1

In this BBC award winning adventure Micheal Wood embarks on a 2000 mile journey in the foot steps of Alexander’s triumphal march from Greece to India. Travelling with Lebanese traders, Iranian pilgrims and Afghan guerillas, by jeep, train, boat, camel and on foot, he interweaves the momentous events of the past with present day reality and brings us new insights into a man whose myth and acheivements still resonate down the centuries. Part 1 (6:48 min) introduces Alexander.

Alexander the Great (July 20 356 BC – June 10 323 BC) also known as Alexander III, was an ancient Greek king of Macedon (336-323 BC). He was one of the most successful military commanders in history, and was undefeated in battle. By the time of his death, he had conquered most of the world known to the ancient Greeks.

At first I did not like videos in small segments but the format has grown on me. It gives convenient places to pause and come back when you have time…:~)

great stuff! very enjoyable to sort of daydream and escape modern reality for awhile. Seems like there must be a part 2 that chronicles his further adventures to the east. I must say that nobody can do documentaries like the BBC. I have seen several from this presenter before… and I must bump Alexandria up my list of places to visit before I die.

i came back to finish the journey….the short segments work for me, as I can pick it up when I have some time to surf…I esp like the last 2 segments on Alexandria and Siwa…Egypt is high on my list…I’ve not made it to Africa yet…. I also love the bbc Michael Palin journeys: Sahara and Himalaya are fab…

Hmm…I am now regretting that I chose not to visit Alexander when we were in Egypt. Went to Siwa/Sinai Desert but I wish I was seriously into photography then. May just have to go back to Egypt one day. Looking forward to watching the other episodes. With India only a month away, I feel like I need to watch and read everything I can get my hands on. :)
