The Elegant Universe: Gravity - From Newton to Einstein

From the NOVA PBS series “THE ELEGANT UNIVERSE’, host Brian Greene guides us through Newton’s discovery of gravity to Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. Greene is a theoretical physicist and one of the best-known string theorists. Since 1996 he has been a professor at Columbia University. The Elegant Universe was adapted for a three hour program in three parts for television broadcast in late 2003 on the PBS series NOVA.

it and by late 1915 had published his general theory of relativity in the form that is still used today (Einstein 1915). This theory explains gravitation as distortion of the structure of spacetime by matter, affecting the inertial motion of other matter.

Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity explained.

General relativity or the General theory of relativity is the geometric theory of gravitation published by Albert Einstein in 1915/16. It unifies special relativity and Newton’s law of universal gravitation, resulting in a theory in which gravity is a property of the geometry of space and time. The theory explains gravitation as distortion of the structure of spacetime by matter, affecting the inertial motion of other matter.

childs play… let’s see someone solve the problems of sociology! Seriously though, its interesting candy for the brain. I quite like Einstein for his personality and his politics and humanitarian work.
